Message from Dr. Erika Mehl on National Doctor’s Day

Happy National Doctor’s Day!

As we all adjust to the new normal of post-COVID life – it is timely that today is a day to celebrate our contribution to the health of our patients and the community at large.
Times like these are defining moments that reveal the best and worst of people, organizations, and society. I personally have been inspired by many of our colleagues who have risen to the occasion and gone above and beyond to provide leadership and collaboration at our site and in the community response efforts. I am also touched by the initiatives to provide support for each other and generosity in supporting the community. Our profession has always been more than a job and I feel blessed to be surrounded by so many committed, caring, and exemplary human beings!

Though this crisis also highlighted many areas in our systems that are in need of improvements – I am heartened that with so many talented and inspired colleagues we have a wonderful opportunity to strive for positive changes that will benefit our patients and the system as a whole. To support this, I want to remind everyone of the use of the Facility Engagement funds.
COVID has disrupted many of the activities that were previously supported but in recognition of the increasing workload in departments related to policy changes, implementation, and extra-ordinary meetings and planning – we have set aside $90,000 to support these activities. Your department heads have been provided with greater details as to the allocation – so please feel free to inquire with them or contact info@msalmh.ca for any inquiries. I have attached the new claim form and below is the link to the form on the website.
I would also like to take this moment to remind everyone to visit the LMH MSA website at https://msalmh.ca/. There is a calendar on the main page highlighting different meetings and activities that are ongoing. The COVID password protected page has a condensed summary of information from different sources – locally, regionally, provincially, and nationally. There are clinical policy resources, recent CEO updates, PCC bulletins, wellness resources, and information for logging into meetings. There is even an online platform to pay your dues!
Lastly – I want to invite everyone to our next Medical Staff Meeting – which will be held virtually via Zoom on Thursday, May 21st at 6 pm. An agenda and invite will be sent next week with a link and instructions on how to use Zoom for those that are unfamiliar.
Stay well!
Erika
